Greenbrier

Greenbrier’s May 13 4-H meeting was held at Landus Coop. Arthur Bardole began the meeting with a reminder of livestock ID’s due to the extension office May 15 for animals not already weighed in. Also the YQCA training should be completed with the certificate of completion sent to Kayla at the extension office by May 15.

The Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, with a theme of “A Universe of Possibilities” will be held June 25-27 in Ames. The online application deadline is June 1, 2019. 4-H Communication Day will be held June 13 at the Greene County Extension office where 4-Hers may not only do a presentation, but also a working exhibit, a poster, or even extemporaneous speaking.

The 2019 STEAM Camps for 5th – 8th grades in the 2018-2019 school year will be Robotics – June 17-21, and Kids in the Kitchen – June 12 in Jefferson and June 13 in Churdan.

Home State Bank is again sponsoring 2019 Greene County Fair T-shirts for each 4-Her. Soon each family will be receiving a Greene County Fairbook. But NEW this year an electronic copy of the fairbook can be found at https://www.extension.iastate.edu/greene/content/fair-documents The Iowa State fair entries are due July 1.

Presentations were given by Brian Hardaway on the planet Mars, and Grace Hardaway on making your own jewelry. Olivia Shannon and Emma Halterman told about “Plastic Pollution”, and Kaitlyn Halterman and Sadie Shannon showed us how to make hover crafts. Dalton Ostrander reminded us that May is Beef Month with a beef facts quiz. Kaleah Messer led a teambuilding activity.

Haltermans, Hardaways, and Shannons served refreshments. The next meeting will be June 10 at 7 pm at Landus Coop.
